Interior Painting That Makes Your Home Feel Like Yours Again

A tired-looking room can make a whole house feel that way, even when everything else is in good shape. Matrix Painting Inc. handles interior painting from single rooms to full homes, along with cabinet painting, popcorn ceiling removal, and wallpaper removal, all under one crew instead of juggling separate contractors.

Letting a crew into your home for days can bring its own worries. Will they respect your space? Will the color look right once it’s actually on the wall? Will your house even be livable the whole time? We cover your floors and furniture before we start, bring samples so you see the color in your own lighting, and work room by room so the rest of your house stays livable.

Every project starts with a free color consultation and a written estimate, so you know the full scope and price before we move a single piece of furniture. Call 984-262-9819 or request your estimate online to get started.

Interior Residential Painting

Full-Service Interior House Painting Services

Interior painting is more than rolling color onto a wall. Matrix Painting Inc. preps every room by covering floors and furniture, patching holes and cracks, and sanding surfaces smooth before any paint goes on, so the finish looks even and lasts. A rushed job means redoing a room you just paid for. A careful one means walking into a space that finally feels like yours again. We paint walls, ceilings, trim, and doors, and we also handle the details that often get skipped: drywall repair, wallpaper removal, and staining. If your project includes cabinets or a popcorn ceiling, we cover those too, with more detail further down this page. Every interior estimate includes a walkthrough of your space, so nothing gets missed once work begins.

Painting your cabinets can update a kitchen for a fraction of the cost of replacing them. Our process includes removing and labeling every door and drawer, priming, and applying two coats of a durable, high-grade finish built to handle daily use. See the full cabinet painting process below, including exactly what to expect from start to finish.

Wall painting sounds simple, but the finish depends entirely on what happens before the roller ever touches the surface. We patch nail holes and cracks, sand down rough spots, and apply primer where needed so your new color goes on evenly, without old paint or stains showing through. Two coats are standard on most walls, more if you’re covering a bold or dark color. We protect your floors, furniture, and trim throughout, and clean up fully before we consider the room finished.

Ceilings show flaws more than walls do, since overhead lighting highlights every roller mark, uneven patch, or missed spot. We use products and techniques suited to ceilings, including flat finishes that hide minor imperfections rather than wall paint that would show every flaw under direct light. Ceiling painting is often paired with wall painting in the same room, though we can handle ceilings on their own if that’s the only update you need.

Crisp trim makes a bigger difference in how a room looks than most homeowners expect, and dingy or yellowed trim stands out once the surrounding walls are freshly painted. We hand-cut clean lines along trim, doors, and baseboards, using a durable, wipeable finish that holds up to scuffs and cleaning better than standard wall paint. Trim work is detail-heavy and slower than rolling a wall, so we build time for it into your project schedule from the start.

Removing old wallpaper without damaging the drywall underneath takes patience and the right technique, especially with older adhesive that can pull chunks of drywall off if rushed. We remove wallpaper carefully, repair the wall surface underneath, and prep it properly before painting. If you’re going the other direction, we also install wallpaper, including commercial-grade wallpaper for feature walls or accent spaces. Either way, we prep the wall the same careful way before anything goes on it.

Holes, cracks, and water stains on drywall need to be repaired before painting, not covered up by it, since paint alone won’t hide texture differences or hold up over a poorly patched area. We handle drywall repair as part of your interior project, from small nail holes to larger patches, sanding everything smooth so the repaired area disappears once painted. This is usually included in the standard prep work in your interior estimate.

Staining brings out the natural grain in wood trim, doors, banisters, and built-ins instead of covering it with solid color, a common choice in The Triangle‘s older, historic homes where original woodwork is worth preserving. We match stain color to existing wood tones or help you choose a new direction if you’re updating the space. The process includes sanding down to bare wood, applying stain evenly, and sealing it to protect the finish from daily wear.

Popcorn ceilings were common in homes built decades ago, but most homeowners today want them gone for a cleaner, more updated look. Removal involves scraping the textured coating off the ceiling, repairing the surface underneath, and finishing it smooth before painting. See the full popcorn ceiling removal section below for more on the process and what to expect.

Interior carpentry issues, like damaged trim, warped doors, or soft spots in window sills, are common in older homes throughout The Triangle. We handle minor carpentry repairs as part of your interior project so paint goes on a solid surface instead of covering up a problem that will show through later. Sanding is part of nearly every step of interior prep, from smoothing drywall patches to prepping trim and cabinets for a clean, even finish.

A Kitchen Update Without a Full Remodel

Cabinet Painting & Refinishing

Replacing kitchen cabinets is one of the most expensive parts of a remodel, and in many cases, the cabinet boxes themselves are still in good shape. Painting gives you a new look without that cost.

Our cabinet painting process starts with masking off your kitchen and removing every door, drawer front, and piece of hardware, each one labeled so it goes back exactly where it came from. We clean surfaces and fill any imperfections before a light sanding pass, then remove all dust so nothing gets trapped under the finish.

We apply an oil-based primer with an airless sprayer for a smooth, even base coat, sand lightly again once it’s dry, and finish with two coats of a high-grade urethane enamel built to handle daily kitchen use, not just look good the day it’s installed. Once everything has fully cured, we reinstall your doors, drawers, and hardware.

An Easy Way to Update an Older Home

Popcorn Ceiling Removal

Textured, or “popcorn,” ceilings were a popular building choice for decades, but most homeowners today prefer a smooth, modern finish. Removing it updates the whole room without a full renovation.

The process starts with protecting your floors, furniture, and walls, since removing textured ceiling material creates dust and debris. We then remove the textured coating, repair and smooth the ceiling underneath, and prime and paint. Homes built before 1978 may need additional precautions, which is part of why our EPA Lead-Safe certification matters for this type of work. We’ll walk you through what your specific ceiling needs during your estimate, since the right approach depends on the ceiling’s age and condition.

Color Consultations

Picking a color from a small paint chip is one of the hardest parts of any painting project, since colors look different depending on your home’s lighting, flooring, and existing finishes. Every interior project with Matrix Painting Inc. includes a free color consultation, where we bring samples to your home and help you see how a color actually looks in your space before you commit to a full room. This is especially useful for off-whites and neutrals, which can shift warmer or cooler depending on the light in a room. We’ll walk you through options based on your home, not a generic swatch wall.

Interior Painting in The Triangle

Interior painting in The Triangle covers everything from a single accent wall to a full home repaint, and the right approach depends on your home’s age, wall condition, and what’s already on the walls. Older homes often need more prep, including drywall repair or careful wallpaper removal, while newer homes may just need a straightforward two-coat repaint. Matrix Painting Inc. handles both, along with cabinet painting and popcorn ceiling removal, so your whole interior project stays with one crew instead of multiple contractors.

Interior House Painting FAQs

Interior painting costs depend on the number of rooms, ceiling height, how much prep and repair work is needed, and whether you’re changing colors dramatically or staying close to the existing shade. Our minimum project size for interior work is $1,500. A single room typically costs less than a whole-home repaint, though larger projects often cost less per room once you account for shared setup and cleanup time. We give every customer a free, written estimate based on an in-person walkthrough, so you know the full price before any work begins.

Most interior projects take about 4 to 5 days, depending on the number of rooms and the prep work needed. The first day or two usually covers furniture protection, patching, and priming. The remaining days are for painting, a mid-project walkthrough to check progress with you, and final touch-ups. Larger homes, extensive drywall repair, or multiple accent colors can add time. We’ll give you a specific timeline during your estimate based on your actual project, not a generic estimate that doesn’t account for your home’s condition.

Clear small items off furniture and shelves in the rooms being painted, and let us know about any fragile or valuable items ahead of time so we can take extra care around them. We cover floors and furniture, move light furniture within the room, and patch walls as part of our standard prep. For larger furniture, closets, or rooms with a lot of stored items, it helps if you clear them out or move them before we arrive, since it lets us work faster and reduces the chance of damage.

Eggshell and satin finishes are the most common choices for living rooms, bedrooms, and hallways, since they offer a soft look while still being easy to wipe clean. Semi-gloss or satin enamel finishes hold up better in high-moisture or high-traffic areas like kitchens and bathrooms because they resist moisture and scuffing better than a flat finish. We primarily use Sherwin-Williams interior lines, including Cashmere, Duration, Emerald, and ProClassic, and we’ll walk you through sheen options for each room during your estimate based on how the space actually gets used.

It’s possible in some cases, but we generally don’t recommend it. Wallpaper seams, texture, and adhesive can show through paint over time, and if the wallpaper ever starts to peel, the paint peels with it. Removing wallpaper first gives you a smoother, more durable finish and lets us catch any wall damage underneath before it becomes a bigger problem. The exception is wallpaper that’s fully adhered, smooth, and in good condition, which we can evaluate during your estimate on a case-by-case basis.

For a single small room with no repairs needed, DIY interior painting is a reasonable option if you have the time and don’t mind the cleanup. For larger projects, rooms with drywall damage, or homes with wallpaper to remove, a professional crew finishes faster, catches problems a DIY project often misses, and leaves a more even, durable finish, since multiple coats and proper prep take real time to do right. If you’re repainting more than a room or two, most homeowners find the time saved is worth more than what they’d save doing it themselves.

Cabinet painting typically takes several days from start to finish, since the process includes removing doors and hardware, priming, two coats of finish, and full cure time between steps. Rushing any part of the process, especially dry time between coats, is one of the biggest reasons cabinet paint jobs fail early. We build the full cure time into your project schedule rather than skipping steps to finish faster, since a cabinet finish that has to be redone in a year costs more than doing it right the first time.

Yes. We paint offices, medical clinics, schools, and other commercial spaces, using the same prep-first approach we use in homes. Commercial interior projects can also include store rebranding, wallpaper removal and installation, and cabinet painting. We schedule commercial work around your business hours, including evenings and weekends when needed, so your space stays open while we work. Visit our Commercial Painting page for more details on how we handle facility and office projects specifically.

Most interior walls need two coats for full, even coverage, especially when changing to a noticeably different color. A single coat often leaves roller marks, uneven color, or spots where the old wall shows through, particularly under direct light. Covering a dark color with a lighter one, or vice versa, may need a tinted primer or an extra coat to fully hide the old color. We include the number of coats needed for your specific project in your written estimate, so it’s accounted for in the price from the start, not added as a surprise cost later.

What Working With Matrix Painting Inc. Looks Like

Why Work With Our Interior Painting Team?

Interior painting means letting a crew into your home for several days, so trust matters as much as the paint job itself. We screen our painters before they join the team. We protect your floors and furniture throughout the project, and we clean up fully before calling a job finished. You’ll deal with the same point of contact from your estimate through your final walkthrough, not a different person every time you call.
